- In IG Ph.D. program since Summer 2002; planning to graduate in 2009.
- Hometown: Beihai, Guangxi, P.R.China
- Undergrad: BS in Biology, Peking University, P.R.China
- Extracurricular Activities: Playing badminton, running, and watching movies. But I have much less time doing
them now. I have been busy taking care of my daughter since she was born in January 2008. I absolutely enjoy it!
- I came to Iowa State because my wife was studying Plant Physiology here and
we wanted to be together. Several months later I applied for the IG program and
got admitted.
- My previous project on small RNAs did not work out. Right now I am using a
genome-wide computational approach to study a small group of introns in plants.
These introns have different terminal sequences (or splice sites) from that of
the major group of introns. I am trying to compare the two groups with respect
to their function and evolution.
- I will most likely do a post-doc and get some more training in
Bioinformatics/Computational Biology/Systems Biology. In the long term, my ideal
situation is to get a faculty position in a research institute. An alternative
is to go into industry if the path to faculty is too tough to me.
