His determined to have a detailed understanding of molecular mechanisms defined in model plant species which can be used to rationally manipulate selected traits in crop plants. He intends to solve the challenges in the field of crop improvement, breeding, pathology, genetics, genomics and biotechnology that Africa so much demands by developing useful traits in plants, such as pest, disease resistance, abiotic (drought) tolerance and genetic gain to meet market requirements and consumer demands, and to increase and maintain yields in important crops in order to address the food and income insecurities.
